In Dayton, family-run Italian places are busiest on weekend evenings and around holidays, when reservations or call-ahead seating are worth it. Wing-and-pizza shops across Ohio do most of their business by delivery and price wings by the piece or in fixed counts, with sauce heat adjustable on request. Catering trays, party pizzas and sheet pies need a day's notice at most places, and more around big game days.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–5 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. If you want the best of the best pies, cookies and carrot cakes, come here! All made from scratch! I'm so surprised at the good prices, given how expensive everything is! The key lime pie and peanutbutter but cream are top tier! This place is a gem, that needs to be protected at all cost :)

On June 6th 2026, In a moment of weakness, I got a Mehaffies peanut butter pie at Dots Market in Kettering. I have not purchased a Mehaffies pie in years because I do not like the owner. In any event, I do remember the peanut butter pie I had years ago was absolutely exquisite. What a disappointment this was. I tasted no peanut butter whatsoever. There was really very little discernible flavor other than sweetness. The meringue was rubbery and stretchy. The crust was soggy yet tough at the same time. It was just not good at all. Overpriced garbage.

Ok! Never again! I stopped in because I was in the area and got excited with the oops we baked too much rack! Don’t go that! Lemon Merangue is suppose to be refrigerated, it wasn’t. The peanut butter pie should have been it had mold all over it once you lifted the meringue. I hope we don’t get sick from the lemon one because we ate that one first and then cut into the peanut butter only to find it was full of mold. All I smell is the bad pie tonight. The lemon one wasn’t any good especially warm.I’m just sick and there are no words. I think the sun has set on this pie place. Customer service nonexistent, emailed to let them know and I got an explanation as to how mold usually occurs on the top not under meringue and thanks for letting us know. When they seriously sicken someone they’ll figure out a better reply. Just wow!

So Mehaffies used to have the BEST pies. My family has been getting them for many many years. Quality has drastically went down. They aren't as flavorful as they used to be and there is barely any filling. We thought maybe it was a fluke or that the quality went down because they had to make so many for the holidays. But that the holidays have come and gone it remains the same. After several chances we won't be purchasing anymore and that is so sad since it is a tradition. But too much money for the quality. A picture is worth a thousand words - here is the most recent lemon crunch pie...

These are the best pies in Dayton and the surrounding areas. Just like grandma made. They have all the variety of pies you can imagine from fruit to cream pies.Oh might I add, they also bake excellent assorted cheesecakes and hand held pastries. The price is reasonable and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. The inside is very clean. You will be glad you tried these pies!!!
